The National Women in Transport initiative was established through a partnership between government and industry, with the aim to showcase, support and increase the number of Australian women working in transport.

This was a decision of Australia’s Infrastructure and Transport Ministers who agreed to a Women in Transport Initiative at the Infrastructure and Transport Ministers’ Meeting (ITMM) in May 2021.

National Women in Transport has been supported by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts (The Department) and coordinated by the National Transport Commission (NTC) to date.

A key focus of the initiative is the National Women in Transport speaker bureau that showcases women leading transport. The speaker bureau features leaders across a range of transport modes, specialities, and every state and territory across Australia.

Charity Partner

Tradeswomen Australia Foundation envisions an Australia where women and girls who want to, can, and do work successfully in trades. We are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce by promoting gender equality in skilled trades.

As a national charity, our mission is to create equity and equality in trades by partnering with employers to build culturally safe and inclusive workplaces, and by mentoring, educating, and supporting women and girls in non-traditional trades. We focus on increasing the recruitment of women into male-dominated industries and ensuring their long-term success by addressing the systemic barriers that impact retention, such as workplace culture, discrimination, and lack of support. By tackling both entry and progression challenges, we help create sustainable career pathways for women in trades.

Central to our work is the lived experience of tradeswomen. Their voices shape our programs, ensuring that our solutions reflect real-world challenges and empower women to thrive in trades.

Our expertise is regularly sought by government and corporate policymakers to inform strategies that strengthen gender equity and workforce participation, and we have enduring partnerships with many Philanthropic organisations across Australia.

Through collaboration, advocacy, and practical action, Tradeswomen Australia is driving meaningful change in Australia’s trades sector—one that values and supports women at every stage of their career.
